Areas of Mathematics Research at METU
Algebra and Logic
Research interests of faculty members include the theory of finite groups, locally finite groups, finitely generated groups, group actions and automorphisms, character theory of finite groups, graphs related to groups, geometric group theory, representation theory, cluster algebras, algebraic combinatorics, set theory and its applications.

Algebraic Geometry and Number Theory
Research interests of faculty members include vector bundles, moduli spaces, algebraic surfaces, algebraic and analytic number theory, arithmetic of elliptic curves.
Group members: Emre Coşkun, Tolga Karayayla, Özgür Kişisel, Ömer Küçüksakallı, Hurşit Önsiper.
Analysis
Research interests of faculty members include functional analysis, operator theory, K-theory of operator algebras, Banach lattices, Köthe spaces, several complex variables, complex dynamics.
Group members: Zafer Nurlu, Süleyman Önal, Süleyman Kağan Samurkaş, Özcan Yazıcı, Murat Yurdakul.
Coding Theory and Cryptography
Research in these areas are conducted by three permanent members of the faculty, who are also in close contact with the Institute of Applied Mathematics.

Differential Equations and Numerical Analysis
Research interests of faculty members include numerical solutions of ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems, difference equations, special functions and integrable systems. Several members of the group also take part in research activities of the Institute of Applied Mathematics.

Geometry – Topology
Research interests of faculty members include differential geometry, symplectic and contact geometry, algebraic topology, mapping class groups and group actions on manifolds.
