1- Students who started the department in the semester 2023-2024 Fall or later, will follow the new curriculum.

2- Due to university regulations, we are unable to transfer students to the new curriculum if they started the department before 2023-2024 Fall Semester. But students will still have the opportunity to take courses from the new curriculum according to the rules A), B), C), D) below. Note that students in this category are NOT allowed to take the course Math123

General Information about the new curriculum and the transition period:

In the new curriculum the must courses in the analysis sequence, algebra sequence and differential equations sequence have been modified and reorganized, and a new must course (Math 123 - Introduction to Number Theory) is introduced. Math 115 - Analytic Geometry course has been modified to the course Math 124 - Introduction to Analytic Geometry and Linear Algebra.

The first-year courses of the new curriculum will begin to be offered this semester (2023-2024 Fall), second year courses of the new curriculum will begin to be offered in the 2024-2025 Fall semester and third year courses in the 2025-2026 Fall semester.

The Mathematics Department will gradually quit offering the courses Math 115, 153, 154, 251, 252, 254, 349 and 367 in the transition period to the new curriculum. For example, Math 153 will not be offered any more, Math 115 is offered for the last time this semester (2023-2024 Fall).

During the transition period the following rules will apply:

A) Algebra sequence courses:

A student can complete the algebra sequence courses by taking one of the following sets of courses:

{Math 116, Math 367}, {Math 267, Math 268}, {Math 116, Math 268}.

Note that Math 116 will be offered to MATH and MHED majors for the last time in the 2023-2024 Spring semester for only the students who have taken Math 116 before.

B) Differential Equations sequence courses:

A student can complete the differential equations sequence courses by taking one of the following sets of courses:

{Math 254, Math 358}, {Math 343, Math 358}

C) Analysis sequence courses:

A student can complete the analysis sequence courses by taking one of the following sets of courses:

C1: {Math 153, Math 154, Math 251, Math 252, Math 349}

C2: {Math 113, Math 114, Math 213, Math 214, Math 313},

C3: {Math 153, Math 154, Math 114, Math 213, Math 214, Math 313},

C4: {Math 153, Math 154, Math 251, Math 213, Math 313},

C5: {Math 153, Math 154, Math 251, Math 252, Math 313},

Also,

C6: {Math 113, Math 154, Math 251, Math 252, Math 349}

C7: {Math 113, Math 154, Math 251, Math 213, Math 313}

In order to follow C6 or C7, you must take Math113 in the semester 2023-2024 Fall AND you must have passed Math154 before the semester 2023-2024 Fall.

!!! In options C6 and C7, if during your program you fail Math 251 and Math 251 is no longer offered, your only remaining option will be C2. !!!

C8: (For Students who have taken Math154 in Fall 2023 and FAILED) {Math 153, Math 114, Math 213, Math 214, Math 313}

D) Analytic Geometry course:

Students must take one of Math 115 and Math 124. Math 115 is offered for the last time this semester (2023-2024 Fall) for only the students who have taken Math 115 before.

Since there may be additional cases that are not covered by these guidelines, the department has also created a committee for the transition period. The members of this committee are Fırat Arıkan, Gökhan Benli, İbrahim Ünal and Tolga Karayayla. Those students who wish to learn more details may contact these faculty members.
